Karate can be practiced by everyone at any age for self-defense, to strengthen the entire body, improve balance, efficiency of movement, breathing and overall health. No special equipment is needed.
Karate helps to strengthen the mind, develop courage, fortitude, and the ability to achieve goals.
Karate practice emphasizes spiritual values of courtesy, integrity, humility, justice, honor, and self-control.
The study of karate benefits the student in all areas of their life.
We are so glad that you are interested in joining Reno Shotokan Dojo.
Joining is easy! Just visit any of our practices to observe a class. Our classes are held at Truckee Meadows Community College, 7000 Dandini Boulevard, Sports & Fitness Center, Room #112, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:45PM–8:15PM during the Fall and Spring semesters; and at the Red Mountain Building, Room #240, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30PM–7:00PM during the summer months.
We have 8-class registration chunks with classes twice per week. Please see our Class Registration page for registration details. After taking a few classes, if you decide to stay, you may join Shotokan Karate of America ($75 for the remainder of the year, this is separate from your ongoing class registration costs). As a member of SKA you’ll be able to test for rank twice per year at no charge and be able to attend any SKA regional, national, and international event open to your rank. Black belt testing is also free, but by invitation only.
