AnnaSheila Paul has been practicing karate since 1993 and has been teaching karate since 2011.
She started her training back East at the New York City Dojo, then at the Bronx Dojo with Mr. Errol Bennett. She received her black belt in the Midwest during the 1996 Summer Special Training in Urbana, Illinois, graded by Mr. Sadaharu Honda. AnnaSheila then practiced out West at the Stanford Dojo with Mr. Manfred Chiu and Mr. Jim Sagawa, then at the Tahoe Shotokan Dojo with Mr. Gregg Henrikson. In 2011, she was asked to take over the dojo leadership at Carson Valley Dojo by Mr. Alexander Dolinin. After speaking with Mr. Tsutomu Ohshima (the originator of traditional karate in the U.S., widely regarded as a top karate master in the world) and getting his direct approval, AnnaSheila led Carson Valley Dojo for a few years. She is now the head instructor and dojo leader at Reno Shotokan Dojo, with direct permission from Shotokan Karate of America’s Shihan, Mr. John Teramoto.
The direct lineage linking Reno Shotokan Dojo to the origins (i, ii, iii, iv, and v) of Shotokan Karate assures the highest level of instruction. Our black belt instructors have studied directly under Ohshima Sensei and have received their black belt ranking through gradings held by Shotokan Karate of America. The traditional ranking system of SKA assures that when you are ready for grading, the rank you are given is indicative of your actual ability.
